PGY-3

This year will fortify your knowledge with inpatient rehabilitation and introduce you to running your own unit in a skilled nursing facility rehabilitation unit (subacute). You will also have the opportunity to work with the pain medicine service run by anesthesiology as well as 2 elective months of your choosing.

You will take on more challenging aspects of the PM&R hospital services as the senior resident on the IRF, participating in leadership, and on the consult service, fielding requests from referring services about medical care issues related to disability and determining the appropriate rehabilitation level for the patient. The Orthotics and Prosthetics clinic at the VA offers an opportunity to learn about motion analysis, gait, biomechanics, and prescription and fabrication of braces and prostheses.

To solidify your PM&R knowledge, the department funds a 1 week national board review course for all PGY-3 residents.
